We hope you like our handy guide that takes the guesswork out of choosing the perfect evening bag. Most experienced stylists will tell you that shoes, handbags and accessories can make our break the look of your outfit. It is possible to purchase an inexpensive dress or separates and make it look expensive with quality accessories. If you keep falling back on the same old clutch all the time it might be time for a rethink and we are here to help.
THE ENVELOPE CLUTCH
In the past these were generally satin but time has moved on and now they come in fab leathers and beautiful metallic finishes. Choose this perfect simple style in a neutral colour for a fussier style dress when you don’t want extra detail.
THE HANDLED BAG
Another throwback to a bygone era – this style is beautiful with a structured dress or a vintage tea dress. Try this in a neutral colour for more wear ability.
THE DAY CLUTCH
A must for any stylish lady – this little beauty brings a more casual outfit from day to night without looking like you tried too hard. Try to choose one with a detachable strap for daytime weekend wear too. This one is a really good buy and can work very well in strong colour.
THE BOX BAG OR POD BAG
Definitely our most popular bag style for the last few seasons, this evening bag comes in many beautiful designs so choose one or two colours that you know you will turn to time and time again.
A FEW MORE USEFUL POINTERS
The more formal the occasion the smaller the bag should be – now is not the time to carry the kitchen sink with you and smaller and neater just looks so much more polished.
Don’t be tempted to go for a larger cheaper bag – it will sag and look misshapen and ruin the look of your outfit. If you have lots of thing you need, medication for example, then chose a larger handled bag with structure so it won’t look overstuffed.
If you are wearing a single colour, in particular black, white, beige or navy a coloured or decorative bag will look amazing. Alternatively if you are wearing a very bright dress a soft metallic or darker shade of the same colour will work very well.
It is difficult to choose a bag without taking the outfit with you and sometimes even the exact shade of bag is not always the best choice. Take your outfit and shoes if you have them with you to get the bag just right. Oftentimes a type or colour of shoe can work very well but the matching bag sometimes just throws everything off. An outfit for a special occasion deserves a keen eye to find the finishing touches that will complement your whole look. If you are on a budget and have to decide on what you are going to splurge on always pick your bag, shoes and other accessories. Great quality accessories always get noticed. Keep your outfit neutral and let your bag shine.
And lastly try to pick a classic design – unlike clothing, evening bag designs do not change very much and a beautifully made evening bag will last you for years to come.
HOW TO UP YOUR STYLE GAME – WITH EARRINGS!
Earrings are such a great way to add life to your wardrobe – they can perk up your face on a bad day and bring a neutral bland outfit to life.
There are so many styles out there so how do you decide what to choose? You can obviously look to fashion trends. Thanks to the many cool designers out there right now, there are loads of different fab styles to choose from.
THE PERFECT EARRINGS FOR YOU
While there are many earrings almost everyone can wear with ease – check out our handy tips if you feel certain shapes don’t suit you to help you understand why.
EARRINGS FOR ROUND FACES
Round faces should steer clear of round shapes as, you’ve guessed it, it adds to the roundness. Miranda Kerr has this face shape and a drop earring will elongate the face and flatter a round face shape.
EARRINGS FOR HEART SHAPED FACES
If you have a wide forehead and a narrow chin i.e. a heart shaped face like Reece Witherspoon. It helps to have a long earring that is wider at the bottom and can ‘fill in’ the bottom half of the face and create balance.
EARRINGS FOR LONG FACES
Long narrow faces look beautiful with larger studs and clusters to widen the face and make it look fuller. Think Sarah Jessica Parker and Liv Tyler
EARRINGS FOR OVAL FACES
Oval face shapes can wear almost any earring – sometimes that you have to bear in bear in mind the size of the person. Small little drops can look a little insignificant on larger frames. Small petite girls can certainly rock large earrings as it depends on personality too! Your colouring can be a factor when choosing really bright fashion pieces.
Hope this helps and remember that rules are meant to be broken so don’t ever be afraid to experiment. And, anyway, the girls at Jasmine are always on hand to help you with your decision.
WEDDING HAIR ACCESSORIES
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PERFECT BRIDAL ACCESSORIES
You have chosen your dress – now you have to decide on the bridal accessories. Your wedding accessories are a very important element as your hair accessories and bridal earrings can be seen in almost every photograph.
Here are some pointers that may help you.
YOUR FAVOURITE LOOK
Your choice of dress can often set the tone for this but many looks can be created with the choice of hairstyle and placement of hair accessories eg
- Romantic – floral, lace, pearl vine
- Classic – classic comb or tiara
- Vintage – art deco or birdcage veil
- Boho/beachy – detail over the forehead with floral or jewels or relaxed draping at back
YOUR CHOICE OF DRESS
You can often use specific dress details to guide you. If the front has lots of detail a headpiece worn to the back would be appropriate. A veil can be worn with most headpieces and will stay in place when the veil comes off. If there are particular stones or embellishments on the dress you may need to work with them. Decide if you want a completely pared back look aka Megan Markle (which can be a difficult look to pull off without the real diamond tiara borrowed from the Queen!)
Sometimes if the dress is off the shoulder and very simple you can keep to the simplistic nature by choosing something discreet or you can decide to add a beautifully wow piece. This is where personality type comes in!
YOUR HAIR STYLE
Begin by discussing your options with your hairdresser. Give a little thought beforehand to the different looks mentioned above and which appeals to you and your personality type the most. Alternatively, talk to a bridal stylist who will sit you down and go through all options to suit you. The ‘one’ can often be an obvious choice when you begin to try a few different pieces on.
TAKE THE PLUNGE AND CHOOSE TWO LOOKS
If you are really unsure and cannot decide on one particular look there is an alternative option. You could wear a veil and bridal comb for the wedding ceremony and change to a more spectacular piece when you take off the veil for the reception. This would allow you to keep to tradition while allowing your personality to shine through for fun time at the evening reception.
Or, if you love to dance until the early hours, you could wear the spectacular look for the ceremony and a lighter informal piece for the reception.
Most of all – enjoy the process!
